Resumen: La traducción al español del libro Gesellschaftliche Räumlichkeit Zwei. Konstruktion geographischer Wirklichkeiten de Benno Werlen marcará un punto de inflexión para el pensamiento social y geográfico hispanoamericano. A lo largo de este texto nos introduciremos al pensamiento de este brillante geógrafo, internacionalmente reconocido como uno de los pensadores contemporáneos claves en la teoría del territorio. Desde el inicio del libro Benno Werlen se muestra contrario a las definiciones de la Geografía vinculadas a una constelación espacial que aparece de modo natural e indiscutido. Como alternativa, nos propone entender la realidad geográfica desde las construcciones sociales y el “quehacer geográfico cotidiano”, o sea, una forma prerreflexiva en que todas y todos traemos el mundo espacial a nosotros y, al mismo tiempo, actuamos en él. Este giro teórico, que luego profundizará con su concepto de “regionalización cotidiana”, pone al sujeto y a la acción como elementos centrales de la discusión geográfica, al entender que todo territorio implica una acción realizada y una significación entregada por las personas. La lectura de esta traducción permitirá, a investigadores, académicos y estudiantes hispanoparlantes, retomar la tradición de la Geografía Social en lengua alemana, tan influyente en los debates académicos desde la posguerra.
